The concept for customized appliances in orthodontics is not a new one and the people responsible for their evolution are too numerous to list here. The benefits of such a system compared to “one size fits all” braces are obvious. With traditional braces, a prescription is selected that is close to what the orthodontist or dentist thinks can address the problems with the patient’s teeth. It is a best guess. The shortcomings of the appliance system are then worked out in the patient’s mouth, adding forces here and taking some away there, to achieve the desired movements and outcome. A digital scan is taken of the patient and sent electronically to California. Dr. Palleck manipulates the setup of the patient’s teeth on a computer and the braces and archwires are fabricated from that setup. Fully customized appliances engineered to accommodate mechanical considerations depending on how much and how far any given tooth has to move. This saves appointments, adjustment times and discomfort from unnecessary tooth movement. No system is perfect but now there is something predictable. Welcome to Insignia!
We are proud to say that we are Canada’s largest provider of Insignia since 2012 and Dr. Palleck is only one of a select few orthodontists that teach this method at the university level.
